Please continue to check PowerSchool for comments and marks on recent assignments/tests or for things that have been handed in late.
The Calgary Board has been setting up material for parent and teacher online use and learning. A reminder that khanacademy.org is a world renowned and CBE approved website for learning math. Khan Academy also has learning in other subjects. Students or parents can (thought they don't have to) set up an account on there to track student progress. There are a wide assortment of math lessons, quizzes and tests to help students learn and track their progress. I'd also remind students that knowing your times tables and being able to recall them quickly, is a very important skill and one that high school teachers see as fundamental for a student to be successful. In other words - practice your times tables! Parents/guardians also teach your child strategies that can be used when a child does not have the times table memorized.
For science, I want to remind students that there are a lot of fun and educational science YouTube channels available.

In the mean time, remember you all have Read Theory accounts you can access, you have Khan academy, most textbooks can be found in free PDF format, and there are all sorts of other ways to interact in an educational way on the internet.
I want to also introduce you to Epic Books. I have used this in class in the past. It is a digital library. You can search for my class, and when you find me the 'class code' is qqg4337 . You should be able to access the collection by connecting to my class. If you have struggles with this, please email me and I will try to help out.

PowerUp week of March 2nd
In PowerUp we are continuing with the magazine project and most students are progressing well. There is a focus on planning and tracking progress at this stage. In the next few weeks, students will be assessed on their organization and self-reflection (understanding themselves as a learner).
All students have a copy of the project in a duo-tang as well as a tracking sheet to help them stay organized and on task.

March 2-6
Wow! What a great and busy week.
It was Francophone week here at school, and so the class was able to enjoy lots of different fun and traditional French culture. Please ask you student how they participated in the events taking place.
In ELA, we met up with a Grade 9 class on Monday to share our stories as they are so far. The students all seemed to find this meeting effective and helpful. We are looking forward to meeting with our partners again next week for a final look before printing.
In Social Studies, we presented our fur trade research projects and reflected on our group work participation and how we can improve our own work within groups. Next week we will begin the road to confederation.
In Math class, we have continued to work with our fellow franchise owners. We spent time in the computer lab working on designing and scale. Next week we well get into some hard budgeting work.
